Frederick “John” Barton
A senior at Appalachian State University, John is majoring in Industrial Design with concentration in Furniture Design and a minor in marketing. He nurtured his passion for art and design at the Marist School in Atlanta, GA. He participates in a student-run chapter of ASFD as a board member. John enjoys hiking and camping when possible. He has been on the Dean’s List and Chancellor’s List while at ASU. In addition, John is currently the recipient of the Home Furnishings Study Grant and is a Finalist in the Bienenstock Furniture Library Chair Design Competition. After graduation, John would like to start his own home furnishings company with some of his classmates.
A senior at Kendall College of Art and Design, Kendra is majoring in Furniture Design because it gives her the ability to bring good design to everyday objects, combining form and function to make something fresh and functional. In addition to studying furniture design, Kendra is also pursuing a major in metals and jewelry. In her free time she enjoys working with a new non-profit theater company, directing musicals and designing sets. She also works with students teaching music and choreography. After graduation, Kendra hopes to be a furniture designer working in a collaborative environment.
A junior at High Point University, Addison is majoring in Visual Merchandising Design because it allows for the expression of creativity in a way that impacts others. It also helps to convey a piece of herself through each design and collaboration that she creates. Addison has been on the Dean’s List and a Presidential Scholar. She also received the Bimbo Bakeries USA National Scholarship, the Ida M. Alexander Scholarship, the Fred W. Alexander Scholarship, the Erath Furniture Industries Scholarship, and the Emile Hodge Scholarship. Addison is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society, The Leadership Fellows Program, and the Interiors and Home Furnishings Club at HPU. She enjoys giving back to the community by working with Special Olympics and the Second Harvest Food Bank. Addison currently interns with Klaussner Home Furnishings in Asheboro, NC. After graduation, Addison hopes to work as a Visual Merchandiser in the furniture industry and explore the use of Mid-Century ideals and concepts in modern day designs.
Kate is junior at Kendall College of Art and Design majoring in Furniture Design and minoring in Sculpture and Functional Objects. She pursued furniture design because it combines aspects of sculpture and industrial design. Kate has been on the President’s List and a Merit Scholar at KCAD. In her free time, she teaches as a peer tutor and a Continuing Education Sculpture Instructor. She also enjoys dancing, travelling, exploring the outdoors and downhill skiing. Following graduation, Kate would like to be a residential furniture designer working in a collaborative design environment.
A senior at North Carolina State University, Olivia is majoring in Industrial Design because she had a strong interest in art and a desire to make a difference in the world. Originally from Greensboro, NC, Olivia is a member of the scholars program and the national society of collegiate scholars. In her free time, Olivia participates in Art2wear as the student director of the College of Design Runway Show and participates in Dance Marathon at NC State, a fundraising organization for Duke Children’s Hospital. She also enjoys exercising, drawing and weaving. After graduation, she would like to pursue a career as a designer of furniture, textiles and fashion.
Hannah is a senior at Mississippi State University, majoring in Interior Design. In addition to MSU, she is in the Shackouls Honors College pursuing a double minor in marketing and art. She has always loved to draw and paint, she latched onto the idea of adding artistic value to the world. She also loves psychology and using critical thinking skills to solve problems. Hannah is a member of the Mississippi State’s competitive Montgomery Leadership Program, tutors and mentors at a local elementary school. She also volunteers with several community service organizations including Habitat for Humanity and the Starkville Care Center & Food Bank. Hannah enjoys managing her own freelance photography business, painting and drawing by commission, playing piano, singing and cooking. She also serves as senior photography chair for MSU’s American Society of Interior Designers student chapter, and is an intern at an interior design firm in Starkville. She’s been on the President’s List every semester and was also inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Following graduation, Hannah hopes to continue her interior design career with a firm that promotes the design of environmentally conscious and empathetic spaces, especially in the fields of hospitality and healthcare. Eventually she hopes to have the opportunity to create her own line of home furnishings that reflect her love for all things interior design through color, texture, and shapes that provides her own brand of modern elegance and functionality to individuals worldwide.
